It happened on a summer afternoon in August at Chapultepec Jazz Club in downtown Denver. Recently, through encouragement from my agent and magazines, I’ve been moving towards telling stories through a series of photographs, instead of just shooting for individual shots that embody emotion and power. So, I love the 40s (if I was re-incarnated, it would have been from that Era…) and being a Louisiana native, I love jazz… thus, I created a story about a jazz singer in the 40s with an unsuccessful career, but a strong passion that keeps her singing no matter what. Actress Mandi Masden’s unique beauty and powerful presence was perfect to tell our jazz story. With the help of assistant Stacey Banks and Second Shooter Rachael Stamps, our session not only created sophisticated and raw imagery full of emotion, but we also felt we were a part of something “bigger than ourselves.”
Enyoi.
Scene 1: The Jazz Singer preps herself up before she goes on stage.
Scene 2: She starts looking around the bar to see that no one is there. Failure is present, but she chooses to go on..
Scene 3: She decides to shine, and does she.
Thank you to Chapultepec Jazz Club downtown as well as to the dazzling Mandi Masden, Stacey Banks, and Rachael Stamps. Ladies, this shoot was wonderful! Mandi, I wish you the best in NY and beyond.
