With all the talk of the end of America as we know it, I revisited a few images from the Democratic National Convention when it descended upon Denver in 2008. Back then, I had a small event planning business (with photography on the side) and so I was lucky to host 6 events for the AlObama (Alabama) Democratic party with the infamous Chef Daniel Young. It was a very politically charged time, but one full of hope. Hope of a new future, the first African American leader.. the hope of economic reform. It was a time of possibility. I suppose as I hear of the seemingly hopeless economic situation that we’re in, I need a little hope. I’m not saying that our hope was placed in the right place, but at least you could see that hope on the faces of many.
Right outside of the AlObama Democrats headquarters, a couple from San Francisco decided to have a protest against the convention. Unfortunately I have no idea what they were protesting about, but I did take great joy in partaking in the scene they created…
I was trying to get to Civic Center park to hear Barack’s speech to Denver. I was utterly pissed that I was hitting traffic at every turn. But then, I saw him.. Barack driving past in his Suburban. It reminded me that even if I’m not where I think I’m “supposed” to be, I probably am just in the right place.
