Meet Grace.
Grace was giving a speech at the WGEF Drama event the first time I saw her. Honestly, I couldn’t tell you what she was saying because she was speaking Lugandan and I hadn’t yet found out that Kenneth would translate for me. From what I could see from observing her for just a moment, was that she is an incredibly powerful woman. Grace stands at 5’9″, which is taller than most Gulu women, but it certainly seems that she towers over 6 ft. tall. Her presence radiates love, confidence, devotion, and power; she is by far one of the most incredible women I’ve had the privilege of meeting.
Towards the end of my stay in Gulu, Grace welcomed us into to her home and restaurant. There I was able to get to know Grace’s personality more personally. To be honest, I felt so very comfortable with her, like she was an old friend. Our laughs were very full together and she was very open and extremely proud to show me her home, chicken house, bean garden– all of which she had created due to the WGEF microfinance program– and most importantly, I got to meet her son. I don’t know if I will meet Grace again, but I can most certainly say that her presence is one that I will not soon forget.
Meet Grace at her home, restaurant, and garden in Gulu on the last day of September, 2009.
