Meet Betty.

This is the first time I saw Betty- confident, abundant, and radiant. She too performed a monologue at the WGEF Drama Competition on 9.26.09, among other drama performances and songs she sang with her group the “blue” team. Betty invited Karen, Eunice, and I to her home, and there she introduced us to the women and children for her village + showed us the crop she was growing that was creating sustainability in her village. Betty is very much an honorable and powerful woman that is dearly loved. Her eyes are wonderfully sincere and her soul seemed to me to be very deep and wise. When I learned of Betty’s experience with the LRA in Gulu, I was completely taken back. I learned that her husband had been murdered by the LRA and then all 4 of her children; the 2 boys were stolen and taken into the bush and murdered, and her 2 daughters were later killed, though she’s unsure of how. My mind could not reconcile how this woman with such an incredible soul could have experienced so much trauma and still radiate so much love & wisdom. To me, Betty is true beauty; a woman who decides to nurture and create, despite…..
It was such a tremendous honor to spend time with Betty in her village. Here are a few of our moments together.

Meet the newest member of Betty’s Village.

This amazingly adorable little girl was so pouty because she was jealous that her new little sister was getting all of her Mother’s attention. Hmmm… she must be a Scorpio. I couldn’t even handle her cuteness!

You can learn more about Betty and her story in our upcoming photo book. More details to come soon. You can also check out the video on Betty’s life + other women in the WGEF microfinance program in their video, Revolution: One Woman at a Time.
