How do you say, Loo-chay?

Luce has often been confused as being pronounced as “loose”.

Nope.

Its actually pronounced (loo-chay), which is the Italian word for light.

Interesting one might say- okay, why Luce?

Well my name is Jennifer, which in Welsh means white light.  (I know I was surprised too.)  Therefore, the name “Luce Photography” (when the word “Luce” is written in white text) means writing with white light.

“Ahhh, interesting,”  many have said.                                                                                                                       Yes, yes it is. :-)

I’ve been shooting photography since I was a child.  From the age of 8 until 11 I wanted four things for my birthday:  a white rabbit fur coat, a topaz ring (my birthstone), a metal detector, and yes, a camera.  (Very telling isn’t it.) Photography has always played a vital role in my life.  During my early childhood, my dad was a photographer.  I remember his film vying for critical space in our fridge competing with the milk and coke. (Note: in the South, a coke is any kind of soda.)

As a young adult, photography was an escape for me.  Whenever I was stressed out or wanted to get away from life, I grabbed my camera.  It was my time with God- my time to see life anew and to reflect on the world around me.  Life definitely has a funny way of surprising you sometimes.  In 2003 my friend saw my work and really loved it.  In fact, she loved it so much she showed it to a coffee shop in Uptown Denver and they featured me as the artist for their grand opening.  From that show I began to book other shows, publication gigs, portraits and weddings- kind of like a domino. Truly, I never knew that something that was so special to me would be what I get to do when I grow up…. whenever that is.
